Ok... #1.. Got dsl a couple weeks ago.. now IE won't show half the images its supposed to load... its only IE that does it.. cant find anything on it...

For everything else, look up the MTU settings. Seven times out of ten, that's the problem. The other three times is port redirection.

I didn't know there was a question pending. Um, I don't know your router set up, how you log into it, how it connects to your isp, what operating system you're using, whether or not you'll ever finish the tracks you've been working on, or any of the other juicy details needed to decipher connection problems. Have you called d-link or your isp?

Note. On my set up, I turn dhcp off, assign an ip on a comp by comp basis, test dmz with the specific ip of the ocmp I"m working on, and if all's well, turn dmz off and just forward the necessary ports to whatever comp needs them. This is the most secure way to work, and the shields up site will confirm that. The mtu can compensate for packet loss, which is what you were describing in your first THREE posts. You see what I'm getting at here? Magicians use smoke and mirrors. Computers need specifics... and somebody who knows what they mean. You cannot try hit or miss with settings. I'm no networking guru but I've managed to get my stuff working. I can only point you in the same direction I would take, if it were me.

I finally got a speed test to run on a diffrent site... downstream registered at a little over 1mbit... Never could get upstream to run

And I had about 4 more lines of text that I had to delete to get that message to post..

Ok.. after searching their tech site for 20 min I found where to find the mtu setting lol... changed it from 1500 to 1400 and all seems to work ok... hmm well... everything except ie and images...

I'd guess that's a browser problem, not a connection problem. Check general browser preferences and the browser media preferences and see if anything has been changed through all this. If that don't work, try getting an ie update to see if that'll do anything... and if that doesn't work, use a better browser.

I have problems with Opera, Mozila, and Netscape crashing on a couple sites i visit frequently...



As for the problem... Well... I've gotten it to the point of I've found out it has to do with encoding.. I can change it from whatever it is set on for the page (say... Western European (ISO) ) to Western European (Windows) and all is fine... but as soon as I close the window and go back it resets.

Ah, there's a microsoft cram-it-down-your-throat default at work.

Here's the deal. When you first signed on with dsl, you probably installed their access software (which may or may not have come equipped with a browser) and which is usually worse than ms itself. When you use a router, you shouldn't need that anymore. So, step one, uninstall any and all access software you used for dsl AND for the dial up. Careful, tho, it could screw up your current configuration so best to note everything down first. I take snap shots of all my configuration screens, print them hard copy and store them with my isp documents so if I reinstall or anything, it's handy. If you have xp, you might check to see if there's a restore point prior to getting dsl and just roll it back. This too will erase your current settings, so those back ups screens are still a good idea.

Tip. Never let an isp touch your computer, even to connect.

Yea... it had a setup program that set everything up for me...

No browsers were installed, but it installed a progeam that monitors the network... if a server goes down it tells me... useful in my opinion... but.. if thats causin the problem (I odnt see how..) I can get rid of all the stuff for the modem though right?
