 Post subject: MTM2 Problem
PostPosted: Sun May 25, 2003 11:50 am
Hi guys,

I'm having a slight problem with MTM2 and i figured that this is the best place to find help.

Whenever i try to start a race im plagued with an error that states:

"Unable to switch to full screen mode" I cant figure out what brought this on so suddenly, as i have never had the problem before.

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks, Betrayal

BTW: Phin, i really like the new layout, alot easier on the ol eyes.
I really should start posting on here more often.

Things to consider

- What graphics card do you have
- Try updating drivers
- What version of DirectX
- Have you installed any new programs lately
- does it do it all the time, or just sometimes
- does it do it even after a reboot

I have a geforce3 and will get this error from time to time, usually after running things like mtm1 for a while or anything that uses multimedia drivers. I haven't updated graphics drivers for a while, and really should get around to the nvidia site - they're probably six updates ahead of me. Anyway, the bottom line is this message indicates a rendering problem. Anything that messes with your display can trigger it. The trick is to figure out what changed.

Hehe, I got exactly the same error. My system is a P3 733, 640mb ram, gf1 256. It switches to fullscreen mode just fine in WindowsXP in hardware mode. When I got Windows 98 (its so small, that was the reason to switch) it didnt work anymore. Before I installed the game, I got myself the newest sound drivers, videocard drivers and the latest directx (9a). I think it has to do with dirextX because in softwaremode the game does run in fullscreen mode. Im going to reinstall Windows 98 with using DirectX 8.2 instead. I hope it works lol The monitor doesnt make a clicking sound when switchign to another res. btw, it usually does in winxp or when using xrand.

Since my last post, I've found that winamp can trigger this message. As for software mode, that is not 'true' full screen. This message is related to hardware acceleration. That's all I have so far.

Okay, It works okay when using the latest directx and the 23.11 detonators (newer versions may work as well, didn't try).

I'm switching to WinXP though, because the game suffers from framedrops in Win98 unfortunately.
