It's a well known fact that merging vertices on truck bodies where you have opposing faces connected to the same vertices will cause adverse cosmetic effects to the paint. This post is to simply demonstate, and perhaps offer a solution.

First I scraped the paint off the stock Executioner then removed the racer back wing from the body. I saved a copy of the wing and the body as two separate models, then reassembled them.
The damage is all too obvious in the pic below. I did not merge the vertices on that wing before I reinstalled it, it's exactly as it was on the stock truck, and it is mapped to the same white color (r254, g254, b254) the cab is.

So why does the stock Executioner look so good? It doesn't if you look close. It looks better than the sample above simply because the wing shares verts with the cab, and is not a true separate body part.

It's more apparent on this model below which is the exact same as above except for the paint. You can clearly see how the colors fade to grays.

A simple fix is to pull the wing off the body then separate it into two wing models with binedit. One model is all the outside faces and the 2nd is all the inside faces. Insert the outside face wing model to the body and merge all the vertices (I'll add a merge 'selected vertices' function to binedit so this can be done with ease when dealing with 'fiber' bodies) then, lastly insert the inside face wing model and merge nothing. Save and rebuild your pod to see your model in all it's glorious color

This little tidbit of info pertains to any flat/fiber truck part you want to add to your model.

Very nicely put, and with visual aid.

I don't see a problem with this as much as I used to, but it's still good to get it out in the open. :P
