Are the driveshaft texture files hard coded? or are they available in one of the pods?

Both. Hard coded and can be found in the truck pod.

ART\BARDRV.RAW
ART\BARDRV.ACT
MODELS\DRVSHAFT.BIN

You imagine correctly. Not even bins for those.

If you make texture or model changes to the driveshafts, you will have to place a copy of it or the truck with that new shaft above your STARTUP.POD in the pod.ini file to make it visible (That's how I made the driveshafts disappear on my Mars transports.

Unfortunately, ALL the trucks get the new driveshaft, so you can't have just one truck with a unique shaft.

I'm going to assume that the driveshaft is rotated per the games code and that it isn't an animated model. Otherwise it would be worth trying some driveshaft loops.

hard coded, but you can make it any color you want in "YOUR" game, but that'll suck for the rest of us.

Your assumption is correct Cale, in fact if you watch it you'll see it's synchronised with the wheels - so if you stop it stops, and when you reverse it actually spins the other way :)
