If you're interested in a very powerful and very FREE image editor then try Satori PhotoXL. I heard about it, tried it, and having looked at it I can say it is very nice indeed. It's not an easy program to use, prior experience with advanced image editing software is recommended (as well as some patience), but the help file looks pretty thorough. It does lots of cool and fairly unique stuff and I think I 'll be hanging onto it for a while. I am already settled into Paint Shop Pro for most of my editing and I'd recommend PSP above this Satori PhotoXL, yet the advanced features and the nifty price tag made me want to bring this to your attention. Anyone who is looking for a great freebie should check this out. It is fully functional and comes (officially) packed with the CD key needed to register it. Here are some download links and reviews:

Satori PhotoXL 2.29 is a cut-down version of Satori Paint, Spaceward Graphics premiere image editing tool. The differences between the two are hard to find, but there's one thing for sure: Satori PhotoXL has a far nicer interace than its big brother. Every image editing tool you could ever need is included as part of this package, text, vector graphics, filters, deformations, layers, shadow tools - everything you'd expect from rival packages such as the GIMP and Paint Shop Pro, only now, it's free! PhotoXL can import from external TWAIN sources, such as scanners and digital cameras, however a GIF import facility is noteable by its absence. If you're looking for a versatile 2D graphics editor or paint program but are on a budget, check out Satori PhotoXL. This power-packed freebie lets you work efficiently with an unlimited number of image layers at any resolution or size. You can make changes at any time and enjoy impressive output results with sub-pixel accuracy. The program is reminiscent of a vector graphics package instead of a pixel editor. All the work you do is defined as resolution-free editable objects such as brushes, shapes, text, transformations, and a generous assortment of cool effects. Any object in the system can be edited at any time. By keeping parts of an image on separate layers, they can be easily adjusted.
