I dont know how bad its really gonna get, i know we'll have alot of wind here, definatly lose power, ive heard estimates for up to and exceeding 18 days to restore it.

i am currently siting right on its path, about 60 miles inland,

so, I am going to enjoy having power tonite, For Tomorrow, We Reap The Whirlwind!


OK, melodramatic i know, but it doesn't change the fact that its true

Estimations are that over 1 million will be without power due to those high winds snapping lines and poles.

even though our power just came back on, there is an estimated 3.1 million customers, and that translates into around 6+ million people

i typed this report in another board a few mins ago

It is 3:52 pm, Hurricane ike made landfall a little less than 14 hrs ago, Downtown Houston is closed, Galveston Kehma(sp) and the like took it hard, i think most of our membership made it ok, but there are over 3 mil. customers(probably 5 or 6 million people) without power up to 3 weeks for some people to get it back.

Ive also heard 4 Levee's are breached in Hauma(sp?) Louisiana

Power is off from the western outlying areas of houston all the way to west Louisiana

top winds over land ive heard was 92mph, we had 85 mph wind gusts in Waller, im on a laptop with wireless internet running of genny.
It could have been much worse

Hey I don't know where you're at but here in Beaumont we just got power yesterday. Just kidding. We got it around the 20th of September, although internet wasn't fully restored until two weeks ago. Cities along the gulf are heavily devastated. Of course, you wouldn't know it watching CNN, there was little to no coverage of it, even at the storm's peak. In the town of Bridge City, 20 miles from my humble home, only 14 structures remained undamaged, out of over 3,000.
