 Post subject: SOLVED: Can't Environment map model

I cannot successfully run some of the tracks. "Scream/Orient Express/Castle Rock too, and others give me similar error messages:

"Can't Environment map model"
File: D:\Metal\Crush2\Core\Envmap.cpp (the last section is different depending on map).
Line: 264 (or another line number)

Obviously something to do with the drive I installed MTM2 too.
Any ideas please?

Menu > Options > Graphics > Hardware Options > Truck Reflections (uncheck)

hmm, i always found truck reflections did nothing, but "reflection" controlled both.

Thanks for the advice, it did make a difference, I can now run these tracks, but after a couple of minutes the screen freezes and I get an error message from my graphics card saying VPU has re-set the card because it has stopped responding?
My Graphics card is not a new one, it's an ATI Radeon 9600 pro.
For such an old game to affect this card is very strange, as I can run almost anything on this card.
Any ideas what else I can try?

Frankly NO! I haven't updated the graphics drivers for over two years! I will check ATI's site for the latest drivers and let you know if that helps.......Thanks for the advice!

Installing the latest drivers seems to have solved the problem! So thank you very much for all your help! But I did notice some errors on the track called "Box Canyon" that make it unplayable: Rocks floating in the air/ Trucks driving through cliff faces and re-emerging on the other side/ All the Trucks (and a boat) run into a rock face and crash, the helicopter then sets them back on the track and they run into the same rock face again and crash, then the helicopter does it's stuff again, and again, and again etc.
Is there an up-dated version of this track without the design flaws?
It is a good track, but un-playable in it's present state.

Computer trucks do not do well on a lot of tracks. I set computer opponents to zero.

Are you saying there is no point racing in single player mode with these tracks (other than the default tracks)???
If that is the case, then online racing is the only way to experience these tracks, because they are so buggy!

No, I'm saying the AI system that was used when mtm was made in 1996, and subsequently used in mtm2 (we're talking ten years ago), had not reached the same level of sophistication that some of today's computerized opponents 'seemingly' tend to display. However, it should also be noted that today's bot racers are seldom computer AI systems at all but rather are mapped courses run by real people saved as replayable opponents.

Online racing is the preferred way to race all games, mtm included.

You can experience any track offline. Once you become accustomed to the game, any game, the opponents won't offer much competition. And for what it's worth, the tracks are not buggy at all. It is not a fault of the track or AI system if the design and layout are more challenging than the game was ever intended to be.

I see your point! I love computer racing games in general, eg: Grand Prix/Collin Mc'rae/Toca/ Even Star wars Racer! But MTM2 has a playability that none of the others has.
I am not an online junky because of band width restrictions, I play almost exclusively alone (though the wife loves "Outrun"), I would really like a list of Tracks that can be relied on to provide a good race with computer opponents.
I have found several that are very good in this area, but with so many available, and no way of knowing how they will race until you try them, it is a hit and miss affair.

Thank you! :D Turning that off has 'revived' several trucks and a number of tracks I had downloaded but couldn't use.

In the Monster.ini file, look for a line that says [Game], and then "Difficulty". Set that to 25 and your opponents will be demon drivers, much more realistic. I have, like, 5 years MTM2 experience and I still have a good hard time trying to beat these guys!

does that honestly work, since right now it should be set to 3 no? like 1 rookie 2 itermediate, 3 professional, i have doubts that anything higher than that won't just cause the game to reset to rookie.

Interesting...

I tried setting Difficulty to 25 ... and I didn't perceive any noticable difference in the behaviour of my AI opponents.

LOL I take it you've never raced with some of the guys online, EJD. :)

The only track I recall having decent AI off the top of my head is Swiss Alps 2. When I first started playing those trucks used to beat me senseless lol. Enter RIP_TK, AXE_Adoob and Strykersville who showed me the ropes, taught me manual shifting, race lines, etc.

Anyway, if I come across tracks with decent AI I'll send you a pm, Disposable. ;)

I just downloaded that track. What in the... !! They (the AI trucks) beat all over the place first time around! :shock: Then I managed to edge out a win (barely) in time to see them taking a hidden short cut!

Nice Track! Know any more like that? (the AI doesn't have to be as good) [;)]

Unfortunately I don't. When I run tracks (and I've run quite a few), I always set the no. of computer trucks to 0 - don't want them in my way lol. If I come across a few more I'll let ya know, however.

Still, just as Phin stated, racing against other people is ideally what you want. Eventually you'll beat those computer trucks with ease. That's not the case online lol.
