Hey I'm Phil R. from TBK's site and I love MTM 2 I've gotten some cool tracks and trucks lately and I have a question.

Are there any jet trucks which actually go really fast. Cause theres alot of big jumps I can't clear. I have the blue angels truck, is there a key you need to press for the engine to kick in?

try using the trucks in professional mode and set it more towards acceleration than speed in garage, but not too much acceleration.

All the trucks run the same in mtm2. This was done by design in order to make racing more fair. However, you can use the rookie, intermediate, and professional levels. Each one runs faster than the one before it, but the handling changes too. So, for example, the rookie level is very easy to handle but it's considerably slower. Whereas the pro level is the fastest but the handling can be somewhat tenuous with the extra speed. A bit of getting used to, but I think most drivers use the pro level. Also, in the garage you can change the gears for the transmission as well as the tire depth and the suspension response. Often, the trick to the fastest lap times, or making it across those large jumps, is finding the right garage set up.

On a track like crazy 98, for example, you'd want to use rookie gears near 1800 to 2000 in order to make it over the bridge jump. On pro, the overall speed will get you over easily, but you'll want the extra acceleration of a lower gear setting, say 1400 or 1500. Sometimes, it's a matter of matching your driving style too.


A lot of the racers are currently working to provide ideal or recommended garage settings for each track on the download page. If there is one in particular you're after, let us know what it is and we'll see what we can do to help you out. The older tracks, 1999 and earlier are already done, and all tracks with a detail pop up are done, so you can check out those recommendations on your own. The way they read is like this:

1500 m s

That would be 1500 gears, medium tires and soft suspension.

Lol...As Phin said, only the gearing settings make big differences in top speed of the trucks. My jet engine models are for visual enjoyment only...They provide no additional performance gains (Oh, if only they did!).

Welcome Phil - glad to have ya, and hopefully the info you've read thus far helps. If you want to take your racing experience to a whole other level of fun, you're more than welcome to race with us and others on the Zone. Team SLO are pretty big fans of racing, so feel free to look us up. :)

Here's another tip: If you're having difficulty running a track or improving your lap times, some tracks at SLO_Jumper's site have replays you can watch and learn from. If you can't find what you need, you can either ask someone to make a replay for you (if possible - some tracks can't produce adequate replays) or you can come online with one of us and make use of what we call "riding with". At the start of the game, simply hit the letter "K" unitl you're looking at the truck (you have to use Chase Far view) of the person who's providing the demonstration, then sit back and watch the show. It's a great way to learning little nuances about running a track, and what lines work best.

I'll add one more thing. If it all possible, try learning to race using manual gears (under Options, click Game, then uncheck Auto). It affords you much more control through corners, as well as a 10 to 15 percent (approx) performance boost in acceleration and speed.
