:?: In a pod, there are 5 large files with extensions
.lte
.cl0
.cl1
.cl2
.clr

What is their purpose?

Specifically: I make several courses on the same terrain and pod them in a single file.
The resulting pod file (although the textures are contained only once) is still substantially larger than a single-course pod on the same terrain because of the 5 mentionned files.

[Note that the size increase is extremely small wrt to the zipped pod. ]

Is there a way to avoid this massive size increase?
My thought is that basically each course would need its own sit file and that all other parts could be shared. Removing from .lst files references to the above files (except for one course) and editing the sit files to reference the same lvl file did not result in a working pod.

Has anybody else wasted time on that subject, lol?

This is probably the only topic on the, um, topic.

If your terrain and ground boxes and textures do not change, then all you need to do is make the first pod. Then, adjust the subsequent sit files (which you'd extract from their pod) to point to the first lvl file, merge them in with the first pod, and you're good to go. I've done that many times and it works without a hitch.

Interesting topic indeed.
I know approximately what the files are good for.
It says nothing about the (im?)possibility for tracks to share CLx and LTE files. Since these filenames do not appear in lst or sit files, I'm afraid they are hard-coded, based on the lvl name.
