Post subject: New Racing Game, Help Wanted....
PostPosted: Wed Nov 19, 2003 10:15 am
Hello, I have been with the MTM scene since the begining, my name is James and have written countless utitlities. I am currently starting a new racing project. If anyone is interested in helping with source code, textures... models anything would be appreciated reply to this post. I also need a name. I was thinking MFR, monster freestyle racing. any suggestions? It will be written in VB5 with OpenGL in mind due to portability. I also planning on the abilitly to use MTM 1 & 2 trucks as well as 4x4 Evolution trucks... and of course my own model format, that will have stuff like crushable bodies and breakable.. pretty much what I want is a new MTM with enhanced physics and some graphic enhancements and whatnot. If anyone can help with the physics that would be great. I already have a 3d engine up and running, with all the MTM features. please reply.

i know vb and some physics but i dont think i could write physics for a game. specially physics like in mtm2. mtm2's physics are messed up - but they are a lot better than realistic physics hehe. people seem to like mtm2's physics.

maybe i can help with somthing else.

why not vb6?

i have vb6 loaded now. i dont know if i can find 5

what utils have u made?

Well, I can program competently, and I've done (been doing) full games design and software engineering and mathematics and programming subjects at university... but I don't know any VB. Most people have the benefit of sequentially going through programming languages, but I got thrown in the deep end, complete with sharks. I've actually spent the past few months working backwards to properly (re)learn some of the fundamentals of writing good code.

I can do C and C++ (and Java, but not too fond of it), have a moderate understanding of DirectX and a very vague understanding of OpenGL... but no VB. And the only IDE I have at home is Visual C++ 6.0.

Additionally, I'm hesitant to sign my life away on a project like this since I happen to know writing even a simple game is a huge undertaking... I myself have had aspirations of making some whiz-bang game too, but a friend and I are still working on a themed spelling game we started in January! Ok, admittedly there's more to it (incorporating themed arcade-style minigames and other features), and it doesn't help we're both lazy and/or keep getting bailed up by real life (for example his getting a job has stalled us a few times), but you wouldn't have believed it when we started out. Aaaah!

But I'm intrigued you already have a 3D engine running... I'd like to know some more details on that.

Otherwise, I don't know what use I'd be to ya...

It's a pretty sweet little thing. I can get 12 fps fullscreen on my 32meg nvidia diamond viper v770d.

Makes me feel really stupid tho. He does stuff in 5 lines that i do in a 100.

Oh well. I knew i didnt know vb right anyhow. lol.

I really should rewrite c-pod lol. oh well.

That's really good to see. At this point, the only thing I can offer is the suggestion of getting a stock track like c98 to run without errors. Clammering for custom work, at this point, is putting the cart before the horse. Once you can get a decent run on a stock track, and people can see it for themselves, you'll get much more support. And too, we already have thousands of addons. Imagine re-experiencing them through an improved graphics environment. But that's all talk. First the working demo, then refinement. The world can come after that.

He isnt asking for new tracks. We are running c98 as default to get it working.

it flys around sorta like traxx for now.
only terrain tho. it doesnt show models ground boxes etc yet.

he's asking for people who might be able to write the physics engine for it so that it can have a truck drive around on it etc.

that involves shocks and turning and accelerating and braking. etc.

WELL, I KNOW IT'LL BE BETTER THAN MONSTER TRUCK INVASION, THAT'S FOR SURE!

MTI, I'm sorry to say, may not work out. Whoever posted about VB .NET not very good at games sure was right! Maybe I'll show you my Alien Battlefield game, though. That's a VB7 game that looks cool. Hard to play, though.

Right. But it's sometimes called vb7.

I can't wait till Jpez1432 finishes that game. That should be quite fun.

Phin gave me the link to this forum post, I saw Jpez's post on the mtmbbs but no one was replying.

I think the netcode could be updated nicely :)
I have a lot of ideas for that. I've done a crapload of work with winsock-udp and gaming. Multi Theft Auto Protection Bot was one of my projects, which turned up to be a good thing. Jpez, if you need any help with anything, just give me an email. Oh ya, and for you zoners that want to login to the zone faster:

Most of the SLO boys have this already, but it doesn't hurt to post here. Till we meet again....
