well no one really knows about it except some of the folks at TRI. It can be unlocked in a similar way to the secret MTM2 track 'the torture pit'

A while ago phineus said that there were plans to put a secret MTM2 truck into MTM2 but it never made the final cut!

I was pretty convinced of this too because someone would've found it out by now if it did exist.

I was just looking in the cd case manual for no reason and noticed that some screenshots had trucks and stuff i've never seen before.

Just look at your MTM2 cd jewel case manual but have a close look at the monster trucks in the bg. From memory its page 10 or under with all the interesting stuff but i've currently lost my MTM2 cd in my cd collection lol. It may be quite a while before i see it again Image

One of the weird trucks looks like boogey van but black?
The other seems to have some sort of paint job with patterns on it?
(Is it just me or have i seen that monster truck in real life?)

Some of the other pages have other stuff on it too that isnt in MTM2. My guess is that the manual was made before the game was finished? Therefore many tracks and trucks were in this BETA but never made it to the final version of MTM2

I could just be referring to some BETA stuff that was never put into the final cut but i could also be onto something. Perhaps one of them trucks IS the secret truck hidden in the EXE file but seeing the EXE file is compiled everything is scrambled but i did see some interesting stuff when i was reading through the HEX. I'll try and get some of that HEX stuff up as well for you HEX maniacs like me some very interesting file references in there indeed! Image

Perhaps some help from some TRI pplz would be helpful. Does the truck exist or NOT? no one really knows and whats all that stuff in the manual i know m$ made the manual but just have a close look at the manual background pictures. Also in the tracks section if u have a very close look there are quite a few tracks i've never heard of including volcano island (didn't TD make a track called that?)

All this is probably just BETA stuff that never made it into the final but who knows?

There's all kinds of wierd stuff in the manual. I'm looking at it right now, and I'll tell you everything I find-

Page 4-Near the bottom of page 4 you'll see a picture of how Samson used to look(white without the chains, like in MTM1). Now why theres an old pic in there is beyond me, but I guess thats what MS did. And read the description on the same page. A quote, "With 20 trucks to choose from," 20 trucks? I though there was 26?

Page 5-on page 5 and liberally spread throughout the book are pics of trucks from the game. They look harmless, but take a look the axles. Can you say MTM1? And whats up with those funky looking wheels? Another messed-up description here, too. It's supposed to say Hollywood Hogan, not Hulkster.

Page 6-Your right Hac, there is Volcano Island on the track selection screen on page 6. Early version of Voodoo? And take a look at the track picture. It's an ABOVE track shot, which I think they should've left in. Theres more on page 6, too. Look in the left corner. I don't know about you, but to me that truck looks like an MTM2 version of TRI's MTM1 test truck, the Patriot. Maybe this was the secret truck?

Page 7-Look very closely at the pic at the top. If you're looking hard enough, you'll see that the trucks are MTM1 trucks(You can barely make out an MTM1 Wildfoot, and I can't figure out what the other truck is. Possibly Rampage?), but they're on Voodoo Island! Clearly a beta, maybe even an alpha, or MAYBE even an inception copy.

Last page-Look underneath 'Call the helicopter'. It Ctrl-M is used to mute sounds, but I do not remember Ctrl-M actually doing anything in the actual game. Who knows?

The search for the answers continues...

Theres all kinds of interesting stuff in the MTM2 Help File, The Monster Manual, too. Mostly under 'Cool Stuff'. Under 'The Monster Truck Story' There's a whole bunch of stuff describing the trucks, how they work, and other stuff. I looked through some of it, and it's pretty informative. But as I was skimming, I noticed a description for the drag tracks. It even brings up the MTM1 drags! Were they originally planned for MTM2?

Anybody else notice that some pictures of the trucks in the help are in-game shots, and that they have the MTM1 axles and wierd-lookin' wheels too? Some of the pictures don't look right either. Look at Bulldozer, Grave Digger, Rampage, Samson, Wildfoot and The Outsiders(Don't focus so much on the truck as on the track background. Never seen that track before.)

I went looking through the .exe file, too, Hac, and found some interesting stuff. You might come up with more tho, since I was using a simple text editor to look through it:
patriot.trk
outsdr1.trk
outsdr2.trk

*This shows that The Patriot was in the game, but whats with 2 versions of The Outsiders? Maybe since the Outsiders are(or were when the game was made. Don't know now, and don't care) 2 wrestlers, they would have had 2 trucks?

Do you want to see this warning again?(DirectSuX)

*I guess TRI doesn't like DirectX!

Out of memory! Please review README.DOC for more information

*Wierd, since last time I looked it was called README.TXT and there was nothing about running out of memory in it.

Shading database for the last time! Phew!

*What?

Prestage
Stage
Get Set
Go
Disqualify

*Some leftover drag stuff, I would be thinking.

Track Map .BMP
Track Fly-By .AVI
Track Announcer .WAV
Track Description .TXT

*I know most of this is a .sit file, but I don't remember seeing Track Map or Track Description on a .sit.

Autostage
BothStaged
StageComFlag
bonusLap Flag

*Some more drag stuff, except for the bonus lap Flag. Don't know what that is.

Stop. CART Precision Racing v1.000 Here is a newline:
Next line!!
And again!!

*Explain to me why a monster truck game would use a whole bunch of code from an Indycar game that wasn't even out when MTM2 was, and have this wierd msg.

Somebody at TRI confirm, deny, or just answer all this.

Some interesting stuff hehe. It might just be a coincidence, but at the Vegas Challenge one of the TRI folks told me there were two Outsider trucks made. He said the second one didn't have all the blood on it, in case the original one looked too gory for a kid's racing game.

Welcome to the MTM2 Twilight Zone!

This is all pretty weird alright! Image

Whats next? Zombies from The Graveyard attack our computers' HDs?

Maaaayyyyybbbbbeeeeeee they just put this stuff in there to send us on a wild goose chase, think up some cool ideas about betas and drags, confuse us, and make us have a little fun.

Nah.

Whos from TRI? I hope someone answers these questions... I can't wait to find out the answers!

There's Zombies in The Graveyard?

Maybe, but I doubt most programmers would instert code into a game as a joke(But who knows TRI?).

Well, Gromit is the lead programmer of 4x4 and MTM2 I believe and occasionally visits these boards. Don't know of anybody else tho.

Hey where is exactly is it?

If i know the position in lines of hex

(try using quick view plus to get them)

The torture pit number 666. The rule for finding that may be applied to the patriot.trk as well Image

Some very intertesting stuff here.

I can't tell you the exact position Hac, since I was using WordPad(works just as good as any Hex editor if you want to look in something only once), but it was about 3/4s of the way through the labyrinth of numbers and confusing junk Image The CART code is near the bottom. And speaking of CART, I was looking through some old posts on this board, and found one of your old posts talking about converting Laguna Seca from CART to run in MTM2. Did you get this to work? I'd love to race Laguna in MTM2, would be an interesting thing to see monsters on that track. Just curious.

Heya Kyle That CART thingy nobody believed me Image

But its true!

I can convert everything over to MTM2 but the prob is that the altitude is lost because the altitude can go to 500 or something in CART. I need some way to move all the models in by 256 or 128 (cant remember)

and do the same thing with the altitude.

My HD was reformatted so i lost my notes and lots of HMTM2 but it shouldn't be too hard to recover.

btw: kyle do you have ICQ?

I got the AOl thing to work but i prefer ICQ Image

Hac,,, I think this subject has been addressed before by Gromit.... My advice is to file it under "Urban Legends".
Yep I think you are right in the assumption that it was something in the beta that never made it to the final game. If you have any further doubts, ask the man. A lemon only has a certain amount of juice. Image

i can't find the valcano track that ya'll are talking about. i see voodoo island, the excavation, one i can't make out, breackneck ridge, tumbleweed flats, then summit 1 2 and 3. what are the summmits about? and maybe to get the truck, you have to beat it in all three dificulties. i haven't done that but maybe one of ya'll have.
