I'm thinking of getting a new computer. The package is amazing and a huge improvement to my current one. The only thing is that it lacks a good graphics card. I was going to get a GeForce card thats on sale as well, but was wondering how they are. Good quality, reliability ect.... Thanks..

Unless you get the FX 5900-5950 Ultra it's better to buy the Radeon cards. The other FX's have low performances compared to the same line of opponent from ATI.

But at this stage i guess it's just a matter of personal choices. Radeon is better in some games while FX is better in others but in most games they perform the same. (but not anything under fx 5900 ultra).

GeForce antialiasing doesn't seem to work well with MTM2

To play MTM2 Radeon is probably the better choice.

I ended up with a Radeon 9200.

I'm having a little trouble installing it, was wondering if any of you knew what to do.

Following the manual I have to get the correct drivers or it won't work, so I went to: http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=70
to find the correct drivers. From there I have no clue as to which to download and install. Is there a way to find out in the hardware menu's or whatever its called, as to which chipset to download?
It also said that it was possible if it was a new system(which it is) that the correct drivers are already there. The drivers part of this thing are starting to aggrivate me.

Also along the lines of drivers, do you think its possible to not remove the old ones since its just going into an open AGP slot?

I figured i'd try here first, because the last time I called a customer service place I ended up with a guy who could barely speak english.

Didn't it come with a disk? Use the drivers on the disk. If not, read the card info right off the card. I had to do that with a sound card recently.

And besides... VIA is doing motherboards....


Choose your catalyst

Select your operating system, then graphic driver then RADEON family.

After that select either the all in one package (25megs) that includes the driver and the control panel for the card (additional settings can be made to the card) or simply the drivers only that is 8megs. Just be sure when you select your download that it says Display Driver in the Catalyst Component tab.

And it said stuff about installing AGP drivers for non-intel Chipset Based Motherboards. Thats how I ended up at Viaarena.com I guess.

Is that what the catalyst thing is that you gave me? I'm unsure because it came with a disk that says Catalyst Software on it.

Installing AGP Drivers aka installing VIA drivers for the mother board (do you have a VIA motherboard?).

You must install both in order for it to work properly but agp drivers is motherboard territory and catalyst software is the graphic card territory.

I knew the catalyst part was for the card, but the thing I was stuck on was the AGP Drivers for the motherboard. Thats how I ended up getting to Viaarena.com, because in the manual it specified where to go to find out what kind of motherboard and it said VIA.

I don't know if I even need the drivers because the computer is brand new, but I wanted to make sure so I didn't mess anything up.

Yes, you do. Age has nothing to do with it. The motherboard drivers aren't automatic and have to be installed too, along with the graphics card drivers.

Go here and download the VIA Hyperion 4in1 drivers. They also include the agp drivers and in case you aren't using anything incorporated (soundcard, graphics card) you don't need other drivers for your motherboard.[/url]

Finally got it up and running. That 4in1 was what I was looking for. Thanks for putting up with my lack of knowledge in that area. Now that I have the whole thing set up I can get back going with everything I intended to do.
