White I think you should relax. I'm a fan of all types of rock music myself. I'm not a fan of a band like Metalica, but can't say they haven't influenced any other bands to create good music. I was a huge TOOL fan, but grew bored with them when my local radio station played the heck out of them.

If it wasn't for TOOL there wouldn't be alot of bands around now. But because someone doen't like them or has never heard of them doesn't mean you really jump down their throat. Any Band could influence other bands. Its their right to choose who to be influenced by.

On another note this is a local band here that has become one of my Favorites. I hope you guys might like this song.

"Yeah i guess the 13+million record sells means nobody knows about them right?"

So you're saying that just because a band has sold millions of records they're great?

Look at rappers, they have sold millions of albums to, and they're not talented at all. A lot of people don't care how much talent a band has as long as the music they make sounds good. THAT is ignorance White, Millions of people like Fall Out Boy, and they are no more talented than Britney Spears. (Britney Spears is probably more talented tbh).
Just because a band is popular doesn't mean they're really any good.
I'm not saying this about Tool, but you need to realize this.

I'm trying to show Slayer that tool is a talented and well respected band, while he sits here and calls them garbage.

It's just one of those subjects that's really touchy for me because i'm in a band my self and i know first hand just how crazy/technical their music is.

I'm sorry about coming off so rudely also, i've been really stressed out lately and it's started to show on the boards. I don't mean to be such a jerk, but lately my emotions have gotten to me.

are you in the band? no? then how do you know the music is technical? how do you know its not synthesized? Do they make a million different sounds from a twang of the guitar? or is their music have a lot of strange sounds that would normally be impossible to produce on a guitar/drum?

Anyone can sound good, anyone can make something techincally impressive, heck, you can do both pretty easily (techno songs lol), still doesn't make them good.

If you like them thats fine, to me thats the same as people liking Rap and hiphop, to me, and im sure many of us here, its not even music, its the most painful noises we've ever heard, so how can so many people like it? I can't really say but I don't think it really matters.

What matters is how upset you get when you find out your precious band isn't as populour as you'd like to believe. 13 million records, out of 6 billion people, thats not that many. And actually I think most (notable)bands have achieved something like that.

It's just really not impressive....

I don't think ive ever heard their music on normal radio here, but their music wouldn't stand out from other soft rock, so I wouldn't notice, I only notice when it comes on on hard rock stations cause the song is so ... different.

I want the music I like to stand out but, stand out in a way I like, i'd prolly hate the band less if they either A, stop playing it on my hard rock station, or B, play the so called metal songs you claim they have created.

my thought is this, out of the 13 million records sold how many of those records were bought by the same people due to numerous disasters that happen to CD's and tapes. I know I've had to keep buying the same CD to band due to misplacing them or theft.

Slayer, tool makes everything their selves and play it live. their drummer is incredible, the bassist is one of a kind, and maynard is considered a part of the revolutionizing of vocals in music.

I really don't know a whole lot about the band myself, but i at least know enough to understand how good their music is. If you really wanted me to, i could get a friend over and have him give you a complete run down on the band, but i can at least explain why they are so technically genius.

I know how technical it is because i know how music works. i understand the complex timing they play in and the ridiculous amounts of time changes along with the extremely technical riffs and drum beats they come up with. It's really hard for people who don't understand music to get it, but the technicality of the songs are really amazing, more for the fact that they've been able to come up with these timings and rifs. That is one of the reasons the band is so well respected, because they're part of the revolution of music. A lot of the bands you hear today are heavily influenced by tool.

My whole argument is that you shouldn't disrespect such an established band. What they've done is something many bands will never even come close to and they continue to do it. You don't hear me calling Metallica trash just because i don't care for their music, but i have all the respect in the world for them because they changed metal and i know that they're an immense talent that you'll see a handful of times in your life.

I really don't understand why this has turned into such a huge argument. I'm merely trying to point out why you're wrong in calling this band garbage, it's just so disrespectful that it hurts my head.

Here's them playing one of their more crazy songs. There is a lot of technical drumming that you can probably understand just by hearing,

About 3:30 in would probably be your best time to start watching. It's a weird song, but really fun to listen to imo.

also a good video of danny carey,

Also, this really shows off how artistic their music/Maynard gets and how unique it is,

Hold on, why not? There are hundereds of well established bands that suck monkey balls, why can't I hate Tool as much as those other bands? (Rage against the machine lol)

Winning an argument on the internet is like winning gold in the special olympics.. Sure.. you get glory for 15 minutes, but in the end .. you're still retarded.

haha true that.

metalheads always wear black, black metalheads (by this i mean black-metal fans, not afro-americans metal fans) wear boots with shirts, thrashers use more a punk-like fashion with white shoes.

hardcore punk kids generally use anti-fashion, mute colors minimal adornment. i dont really dress that way, since i like metal too, i wore bands t shirts some black pants my chain my spikes and my dirty black converse shoes. and im ready to go.

i might buy some boots soon.

talking about concerts and gigs, i dont really go to big concerts, i mean, those big ones for mainstream bands, in stadiums and stuff, I like more underground stuff, clubs and bars where you can kick some kid face in the mosh pit, and you can brought your booze with no more problems. well sort of, theres aways hardliners-straight edge kids who try to take our booze or spill it. we always have problems with them.

I don't go by the "scene" i just listen to the music and enjoy the shows. I love the bigger shows because the bands generally put on great performances while underground shows are more intimate and all about the scene kids.

well for me its all about the underground hardcore and metal scene, those big mass marketed shows are for those kids who are afraid to go to a real metal show, just my opinion.
