Had an idea I want to work on recently. I remember a couple old tracks with working street lights and I was wondering if A: if anyone still knew how to do that or if a tutorial still exists, and B: if this would be possible on a larger scale like lightning a stadium for night events without causing so much lag it's unplayable. Any help would be appreciated and thanks!

I checked the MTMG site for light post models to give them a look over, but the page is gone. I had to use the Wayback archive site to find an intact copy of the page. The model download links appear to still be viable.

The light models do not have any lighting capabilities I can see and only include physical model and texture, so I assume the illumination is set in the track .SIT itself, or the light beams are separate objects. . Truck-maker and not a track-maker, so I'm not positive about this.

If I had to guess they somehow use the .lte file, that is the lighting file for the track in the data folder. I'll have to look on some old cds and harddrives. Oliver Pieper and Guitar Bill, MTM masterminds gave me a text file that they compiled that had the file formats of the files in the data folder. I used it in Monster Freestyle Racing, not sure where the source code to that is either though. Fila might be able to find it in the MTM2 source code maybe?

I remember there was a lightpole model with working light on the MTMG models site, you had to set up the model as a "moving" object on traxx. I tried that aproach first on the Valparaiso at night track and kept having AVs for having too many moving objects.

edit:
here is the aforementioned model with a nice readme file explaining everything inside.

I guess the trick has to do with the train lights.

btw, the MTMG models page is right here.
