Music.pod Replacements

Using loose WAV files instead of a Music.POD: extract the contents of the Music.POD into the MTM2 folder, then unmount "music.pod" from the "pod.ini" (necessary) and delete the POD (optional). If done correctly the WAV and KLP files from the Music.POD will all be in a "SOUND" sub-folder and fully accessible by the game. This will free a position in your "pod.ini", and since there is no compression involved with PODs, your disk space usage will remain the same. With these loose WAV files in place you can easily change them, individually, to any new WAV files you like, provided you name them the same as the stock WAV filenames. This is by far the easiest way to customize the default soundtracks!

The MTM2 "music.pod" contains shortened, looping, low quality, mono versions of the songs on the MTM2 CD (22,050 Hz, 8 Bit, Mono), while the CD contains full length, high quality stereo versions of the music in the music.pod (with the exception of one track, which is different).

SPLASH.WAV ; Original: 1:06 / CD-6: 3:14
(CD track 6 is different than the "splash" menu music)

You can build your own Music.pod using these full length soundtracks if you like, just extract the MTM2 CD tracks to WAV files using a freeware CD to WAV utility like CDex or Exact Audio Copy. Load the resulting WAV files in "Sound Recorder" and convert them to PCM, 22,050 Hz, 8 Bit, Mono (it may be possible to leave them full size and quality if you want a 300 MB music pod), then rename them to match the stock WAV names (MTMG Music).

It should be noted that the larger the WAV is the more memory it uses, if your RAM is already stretched to the maximum then you might want to pass on this "full length" music.pod.

Remember the loose WAV file trick at the top of this page if you don't want to bother with PODs!

For a treat be sure to listen to the MTM2 CD audio tracks in their full quality, either as CD audio or as MP3s ripped from the CD.
