Using .MOD music in MTM2 tracks

The Technology: Using .MOD music in Monster Truck Madness 2 tracks! MTM1 style mod music has many advantages over the usual WAV files, mods can sound great and run many minutes longer, in stereo, while using far less disk space and less system memory.

A 60 second .wav at 11,025 Hz, 8 Bit, mono is ~630kb
A 60 second .wav at 22,050 Hz, 8 Bit, mono is ~1300kb
A 6 minute .mod at 44,000 Hz, 16 Bit, stereo can be as little as 100kb

The Trick: No track editor supports it but the method is simple, you must edit a track file and create the final .POD yourself. One of a track's data files is the .LVL file, a plain text file that determines track settings like music, color palettes, water depth, and more. At the top of the .LVL is a number, which is "0" in MTM2 tracks and "4" in MTM1, changing this number to "3" will enable mod music in MTM2 tracks.

The Technique: Create a track pod with your favorite editor then extract that pod to a new folder with a pod utility. Edit "trackname.LVL" in the "levels" sub-folder using a text editor, change the number at the top to "3" then insert the filename of your chosen mod file where you see an existing .mod or .wav file listed. Put your mod in a "music" sub-folder and then re-create the track pod.
